iPhone 7 release date and specs rumors: Could be unveiled Sept. 9

The Telegraph UK said the iPhone 7 could also be released under the name "iPhone 6S." In addition, it has been reported that new phone might also work on a new electronic subscriber identity module (e-SIM) technology standard that will enable would-be owners to switch between different wireless carriers.

Apple and Samsung have been in talks with international service providers in order to make this new standard work. However, Apple hasn't confirmed anything yet and this could be a mere speculation.

The company had already unveiled its own SIM technology when it released its iPad Air 2 device last year.

In terms of the specs, the upcoming iPhone is expected to run on Apple's latest iOS 9 operating system (OS). The iOS 9 was unveiled during the company's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) event that took place about two months ago.

Herald Recorder reports that the new OS will have an upgraded version of Siri along with an extended battery life and improvements to apps.

Earlier reports suggested that the new iPhone 7 could come with Force Touch capability along with an A9 processor under its hood. According to Inquisitr, the Force Touch technology is capable of recognizing how much force users exert when they press on the screen, and can perform other functions accordingly.

Also, earlier reports have pointed out that the next iPhone could have a 12-megapixel camera on the back. In terms of the design, Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst from KGI Securities, said earlier this month, that Apple may have planned to use the "Series 7000 Aluminum" for its iPhone 7, which will make the phone more durable.
