When Google announced the latest version of its mobile operating system, Oreo, back in August during the day of the solar eclipse, many smartphone manufacturers promised to roll out the update to their devices. This week, OnePlus has revealed that Oreo is now available for the OnePlus 3 and 3T via its OxygenOS update. Sony, on the other hand, announced that its Xperia XZ Premium device will get the update in December.

OnePlus is pushing the updates to the OnePlus 3 model via the OxygenOS Open Beta 25, while the OnePlus 3T will get it via the Open Beta 16. Both of these updates will upgrade the Android operating system of the phones to version 8.0.

As a result, new Android Oreo features will now be available, like picture-in-picture in supported apps, a brand new auto-fill feature, smarter text selection, quick settings, and a bunch of security features.

Japanese manufacturer Sony also announced that their own Xperia XZ will be getting an update to bump up its Android version to 8.0 this December. Although Sony is one of the companies that have not yet fully committed to Android Oreo, this announcement may be a good sign that the Xperia line of smartphones my embrace the new Android version in the new future. As of now, the XZ is the only model that has been confirmed to be getting the update

While the recently released new Google phones already have the Android Oreo built in, it takes time for various third party smartphone manufacturers to get this latest update. Manufacturers still have to make sure that the new software update will be compatible to their hardware before rolling it out to its users.

Furthermore, many manufacturers have their own user interface that is unique to their products. This complicates the upgrade process, as companies will still need to create a new update for their own user interface using the new Android version before they can send updates to users' phones.
