Monolith Soft welcomed 2017 with its newest action role-playing video game (ARPG) "Xenoblade Chronicles 2." The game was released on Dec. 1, and according to critics, the game brings extensive combat system and avatar customization. The game is exclusive for the Nintendo Switch.

The story of the game is about a scavenger named Rex and the blade Pyra he meets. The two venture together to reach the Elysium paradise. The gameplay is the usual ARPG setting that includes drivers and blades fighting together.

According to IGN, the new installment to the "Xenoblade Chronicles" has all the gaming elements the series had introduced to players for many years. IGN commended the storyline, combat gameplay, and exploration of "Xenoblade Chronicles 2." The video game critic gave the game a score of 8.5 out of 10 or a "Great" ranking. IGN also pointed out that the game can be completed in an estimated 70 hours, depending on how the player experiments on his character and acquire all 38 rare blades.

GameSpot pointed out that the character customization of the game is versatile and can be experimented on. The game was also well received by fans. According to comments posted by gamers on GameSpot, the ARPG game is a great improvement to the previous Xenoblade video games. However, some fans were disappointed to the developers' lack of creativity in designing the blades. The world of Alrest and different area designs in the game were also given great feedback.

The soundtrack of the game also received positive comments from experts. The voice actors, however, were targeted with criticism.

The game received a 7.6 out of 10 from GameSpot, 9 out of 10 from TrustedReviews, and 84 percent from Metacritic.

There are still no information or hints from the developers if they will introduce new gaming contents or DLC updates to bring new rare blades in the game.
