Vampire Diaries season 5 premiere: Watch online episode 1 live stream "I know what you did last summer" [CW start time, preview video]

"The Vampire Diaries" season 5 will be premiering tonight on CW at 8 p.m. ET.

Nina Dobrev (Elena) and Candice Accola (Caroline) will be returning to the small screen as vampires on Thursday. Their characters will start their freshman year at Whitmore College.

Accola recently dished to TV Fanatic about Caroline's role in the season premiere episode., titled "I Know What You Did Last Summer. "Caroline is actually really upset [on The Vampire Diaries Season 5 premiere. She wants this perfect college experience, but she keeps waiting for Bonnie to show up and Tyler to show up."

However, the girls do not know that Bonnie is dead. Accola says, "They have communication with her through Jeremy. They have no idea Bonnie is dead."

A sneak peek trailer for "The Vampire Diaries" season 5 episode 1 shows Elena and Damon (played by Ian Somerhalder), preparing to say goodbye before heading off to college.

Another trailer revealed this week shows how Jeremy has been keeping Bonnie's death a secret. The clip shows Jeremy speaking to Bonnie's ghost, which tells him to keep lying about her being dead. "What happens when your dad finds out you've been dead all summer?" he asks.

Meanwhile, new character posters have been posted on the show's Facebook account, showing characters Matt, Caroline, Bonnie and Jeremy.
