"TowerFall" creator Matt Thorson from developer Matt Makes Games has announced that his new platform game called "Celeste" will be released next month.

"Celeste" is a two-dimensional platform game that tasks players with climbing a mountain that is accomplished by completing over 600 levels of gameplay. The title will feature plenty of secrets for players to unlock across eight chapters.

Players will also be able to unlock hardcode B-sides for each of the chapters. This will allow them to play new levels that pose increasingly difficult challenges, pushing players' climbing skills to the limit.

While playing the 2D game, players will take on the role of Medeline, who has the ability to climb on any surface. The character can also perform air dashes in order to gain access to hard-to-reach places.

As players progress in the game, they will meet a number of peculiar characters in present-day Pacific Northwest. They will assist Medeline in her quest to unlock the secrets of the mysterious mountain.

With the upcoming release, "Celeste" will become available on PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.

"Celeste" was originally announced during the summer of 2016. In February, the developers announced that the tentative release of the new game was 2017. Although they have missed the deadline slightly, fans will be glad to know that the game is arriving early in the year.

Thorson and Matt Makes Games first became known for the action indie game "TowerFall." The title was originally released in 2013 for the Ouya microconsole and was later ported to more modern consoles like PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Linux, OSX and Windows with the title "TowerFall Ascension."

"TowerFall" is an archery combat arena game where players are tasked to defeat each other using arrows and head-stomps. Gameplay will continue until only one player remains and is declared the winner.
