'The Young Messiah' now available for home viewing: A film 'unlike any Jesus movie you've ever seen'

The faith-based film "The Young Messiah" is now available for purchase on digital HD and will be available on DVD and Blu-Ray on June 14.

The movie stars Adam Greaves-Neal as the 7-year-old Jesus Christ. Vincent Walsh plays his father Joseph and Sara Lazzaro portrays his mother Mary.

The story follows Jesus' journey from Egypt to Nazareth, and on to Jerusalem where His true identity is finally revealed. It is based on Anne Rice's novel "Christ Our Lord: Out of Egypt."

The movie has received rave reviews since it was released on March 11, according to The Gospel Herald

Radio personality Rush Limbaugh says the film is "unlike any Jesus movie you've ever seen." Hugh Hewitt, another radio talk show host, calls it "a spectacular movie for the whole family."

However, some critics claim that the film deviates from the real story of the Bible.

Director Cyrus Nowrasteh could not understand why some people would think so.

"This movie is a reverential and a respectful movie towards Jesus and the faith and Christianity. There is nothing in this movie—and I have been told this by numerous theologians and people who I talk to and who advise me—there is nothing in this movie that contradicts anything that is in the Bible," he told Fox News.

He hopes the film will find its place alongside other classical Jesus films.

Nowrasteh said their main goal is to inspire people to visit, or revisit, Jesus' story from a fresh new angle.

"As believers, we hope that children will be attracted by another child's story—Jesus' story—and that this can be a Passion of the Christ for the entire family," he says. "We even hope that, in some small way, our film leads viewers to the transformation and grace that Jesus extends to us all."

The movie is released by Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.
