The Weeknd unfollows, purges ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez from his Instagram

Roughly a month after breaking up with singer Selena Gomez, The Weeknd, has unfollowed her on the social media platform Instagram. After unfollowing her, The Weeknd also purged all photos of Gomez from his account.

It looks like the Canadian singer, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, is looking to keep away from his ex and limit his exposure to her. Prior to The Weeknd's move, Gomez already unfollowed him on her Instagram over a week ago.

However, The Weeknd is taking the process of moving on another step further, as he has also deleted all of the pictures with Gomez that he previously posted. Gomez, on the other hand, unfollowed The Weeknd but left his and their photos on her account.

Although some may find it petty, many consider purging people from social media an important step towards healing and moving on after a breakup. Sometimes, social media exposes users to their exes and this sometimes leads to temptation to get in touch with them or maybe give a harmless like or comment. For this reason, both The Weeknd and Gomez did the right thing to unfollow each other.

The power couple called it quits in October, ending a relationship that lasted 10 months. According to people close to the couple, it was the distance that played a major role in the decision to break up. The Weeknd is currently away on tour, but Gomez needed someone more present.

Prior to the reports of the breakup, Gomez spent time with her ex-boyfriend, Justin Bieber. Now, it looks like the two have rekindled their relationship.

"They both spent Thanksgiving with their families," said a source about Gomez and Bieber. "They are still doing really well together, but they agreed it was best for them to be with their families for the holiday."
