The latest album of pop superstar Taylor Swift, "Reputation," has reached the one million sales mark, making it the best-selling record of the year in just four days since its release.
According to Nielsen Music, the album had reached 1,050,000 copies sold by Monday, topping Ed Sheeran's "Divide," which has sold over 900,000 copies since its release earlier this year.
The remarkable sales performance of "Reputation" makes it the fourth of Swift's records to break the million mark within a week. Her last three albums, "1989," "Red," and "Speak Now" all sold over a million copies in their first week.
During their respective first seven days, "Speak Now" sold 1.05 million, "Red" sold 1.21 million, and "1989" sold 1.29 million copies. Swift released the album on Friday, and it recorded a whopping 700,000 copies sold within its first 24 hours. By the end of Sunday, the number reached 925,000.
One of the factors that may have helped drive the sales numbers up is Swift's decision to withhold the record from being available on any streaming service, like Spotify or Apple Music. This prompted fans, who wanted to hear the album immediately, to purchase it.
However, the singer did strike a deal with iHeartRadio to stream the new album for 24 hours on its marketing side, HitRadio.
Despite its stellar performance, Swift's sixth studio album is not likely to touch the record for the first week sales, which is held by Adele's "25." The British singer's album sold an enormous 3.4 million copies during its first week when it was released in 2015.
"Reputation" marks the singer's departure from her old style and features grittier, darker themes. Furthermore, instead of sticking to her trend of releasing an album once every two years, the pop star waited three years before releasing her latest album.
Swift has previously released a number of singles taken from the album, including "Look What You Made Me Do," "...Ready For It," "Gorgeous," and "Call It What You Want."
