Nintendo's "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" is one of the most nominated games in the 2017 The Game Awards.

The Game Awards 2017 has revealed this year's nominees. Nintendo has the most nominations with 23 including six each from "Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" and "Super Mario Odyssey."

In terms of number of nominations, Nintendo is followed by Sony Interactive with 15 and Activision with seven.

The two big Nintendo games are nominated for the Game of the Year award, along with the adventure game "Horizon Zero Dawn" which also nabbed six nominations, the role playing game "Persona 5," and the year's breakout Battle Royale shooter "PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds." The list is one of the most dynamic ever, and shows the diversity and quality of the games that were released this year.

"Destiny 2," while not included in the Game of the Year category, also tied for the most nominations with six nods.

In the Best Family Game category, Nintendo scored four of five nominations, with three of them being "Super Mario" titles. "Sonic Mania" is the only non-Nintendo game nominated on that category.

The awards will tap select juries to handle the big categories, while some awards will be decided solely with fan votes. These categories include Best Esports Team, Best Esports Player, and Most Anticipated Game.

The Game Awards is also adding two new categories this year. The first one is the Student Game Award, where the best high school or college level developers will be awarded.

The second new category is the Best Ongoing Game, which highlights the evolution of titles toward being games-as-a-service. This category's nominees are an assortment of new and old games, from "Destiny 2," "PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds," and "Overwatch," to "Rainbow Six: Siege," "Grand Theft Auto Online," and "Warframe."

The Game Awards will be held on Dec. 7, 8:30 p.m. EST at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California. The awards event will also be shown on a variety of free live streams.
