Nintendo posted a mosaic featuring fans' farewell posts to Miiverse.

Nintendo has shut down Miiverse, the social platform that allowed WiiU and 3DS gamers to interact with each other and form communities. After fans of the service shared their farewell posts to the platform, Nintendo responded with a huge mosaic that featured thousands of its member's artworks.

The mosaic showed a Miiverse character with a large "Thank you!" When zoomed in, a collection of thousands of artworks posted by the users can be seen. The artworks are the farewell illustrations and photos shared by the members.

Earlier this year, after the company announced that it will be retiring the service, Nintendo created a Miiverse community specifically to let its members post their goodbye messages to the platform.

The service shut down Tuesday night according to the schedule that Nintendo has set. The website of the service now just features the "Thank You" mosaic and a reminder that users can request a download of their post history.

Users who make the request will be receiving a URL from Nintendo in the email address linked to their Miiverse account. There, they will be given instructions to get their old posts. "It may take a few weeks after Miiverse service has ended to receive the e-mail with your downloadable post history," said Nintendo. "Please be patient."

The social platform first launched in 2012, and quickly became one of the most beloved features on its gaming consoles. Fans of Nintendo embraced the social service, posting weird and sometimes awkward hand-drawn illustrations that are signature Nintendo in nature. The posts on the platform were a source of good cheer for Nintendo users, which further improved the overall landscape of Nintendo games.

To date, Nintendo has not released a replacement service that is compatible with its latest console, the Nintendo Switch. But given the history of Miiverse and the impact it made to Nintendo users, Nintendo releasing a social platform for the Switch is not a very farfetched idea.
