'Marvel's Agent Carter' premiere episode, first 'Ant-Man' full trailer to be released on Jan. 6

This Tuesday, Jan. 6, superhero fans will get two special treats from Marvel and ABC: a two-hour premiere and a longer teaser trailer.

First, viewers will get to watch back-to-back debut episodes of "Marvel's Agent Carter." Avid fans know Peggy Carter as Steve Rogers' tough-as-nails love interest in "Captain America: The First Avenger." Unfortunately, their blooming romance didn't end well because the Captain's plane crashed and he was presumed dead. Carter, of course, had to live with it and go on with her life, which is what the new TV series focuses on.

English actress Hayley Atwell reprises her role as Peggy Carter, but this time, instead of training recruits for the military and seeking the right candidate for a top secret experiment (which they already previously found in Rogers), she works in an office under the Strategic Scientific Reserve. It's not easy for one so talented and intelligent, not to mention highly experienced in the field, to be tied down to a desk job, but that's what she needs to endure in the series — made worse by an overbearing boss, the loss of Rogers, and the culture in the '40s, which underestimates the abilities of women. Good thing she has more exciting work going for her, albeit in secret. Unknown to others, she covertly helps her friend Howard Stark (Iron Man Tony Stark's father) get out of his dilemma.

Carter doesn't have superpowers, but she's far from being a damsel in distress. As Atwell told Entertainment Weekly, "We show the cost of her strength. She's got her work, and she's got her private grief, but when they are combined, that's when it gets dirty for her."

But Peggy Carter is not the only Marvel protagonist fans will see come Tuesday.  They will also catch a glimpse of Scott Lang (Paul Rudd), Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), and Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) in the first full trailer of "Ant-Man." Marvel recently released a teaser of a teaser, which fans can enjoy until Tuesday when the longer one is finally shown.
