LG G4 Pro release date, specs roundup: LG to launch 'super premium' smartphone later this year

After the launch of LG's G4 smartphone back in April, the company is now expected to release a new handset device sometime by the second half of this year, according to an announcement by LG's president, Cho Jun-ho.

According to reports, the new device is a "super premium" product that fits the description of the rumored LG G4 Pro. VR Zone said the move is aimed at improving the South Korean company's market share after this year's first half sales fell short of expectation.

According to ET News, a high-ranking official at LG Electronics said, "We are challenging ourselves to improve our performance level in second half by strengthening our marketing and releasing new products per business."

"We are definitely holding separate briefing sessions and examinations per business, but we are not yet considering purchasing treasury stock or supporting stock price," the unnamed source affiliated with LG added.

ET News also reported that LG, as part of the new strategy, plans to reduce the price of some of its products, such as the OLED 176 TV, in order to improve the sales figures.

In terms of the specifications, the LG G4 Pro is expected to sport a 5.8-inch IPS LCD display screen with a 1440 x 2560 pixel Quad HD resolution and to run on the new Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system (OS).

The LG G4 Pro is anticipated to feature a powerful 20.7-megapixel camera on the back and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera. Inside, the phone is seen to pack a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor and 4GB RAM.

It has also been rumored for some time now that LG is working with Google on a Nexus device that is expected to be released this year as well. Like the LG G4 Pro, this phone will pack a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, according to a recent leak, and will sport a slightly different 5.7-inch display screen with Quad HD.
