Kate Middleton has given birth to a baby boy! The baby was born at 4:24 PM BST, weighing 8 lbs 6 oz.

The breaking news comes hours after the Duchess of Cambridge checked into St. Mary's hospital with Prince William.

The scene outside of St. Mary's hospital, where the Duchess of Cambridge will give birth at the Lindo Wing, is quite a sight as media and paparazzi had camped outside in anticipation of the baby news.

"Historically, this is huge," CNN's royal expert, Victoria Arbiter, told Yahoo! Shine. "In 60 or 70 years, this baby will be a monarch. It's also the first time since Queen Victoria that four generations of monarchs will be alive together."

Hundreds of photographers have lined the streets of the hospital and broadcast media from all over the world prepare to take the first snapshot of the royal baby and the new parents.

Middleton arrived at the hospital at 5:30 a.m. this morning in a car with Prince William and security guards. Royal sources say that "Kate went into labour naturally and things are progressing well."

The royal baby will become third in line to the throne, replacing Prince Harry. The baby will be given the title Princeand will become the future King of Britain.

Prince William and Prince Harry were both born in the same with of St. Mary's hospital.

The Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Rev Justin Welby, tweeted his excitement upon the news of Middleton going into labour. "My thoughts and prayers are with Kate and the whole family on this enormously special day."

Prime Minister David Cameron said that today was a "very exciting occasion" for the nation and that the whole country is "hoping for the best."

While journalists are camped outside of St. Mary's hospital, tourists have also flocked to Buckingham Palace.
