Meanwhile, Jay-Z and his wife Beyonce took to the streets in New York for the "Justice for Trayvon" rally, where the slain teen's supporters gathered to protest the acquittal of Zimmerman last week.

Zimmerman's sensational non-guilty verdict has rocked the nation, with protests emerging in major cities across the nation.

President Barack Obama appeared at a surprise news briefing on Friday to offer his personal remarks regarding the sensitive case.

"You know, when Trayvon Martin was first shot, I said that this could have been my son. Another way of saying that is Trayvon Martin could have been me 35 years ago. And when you think about why, in the African- American community at least, there's a lot of pain around what happened here, I think it's important to recognize that the African- American community is looking at this issue through a set of experiences and a history that -- that doesn't go away."

An all-female jury acquitted Zimmerman for the second-degree murder in the death of Trayvon Martin on July 13. The neighborhood watch volunteer shot and killed unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin after an altercation on Feb. 26, 2012.
