Smartphone manufacturer Essential has rolled out another set of updates to improve the camera of the Essential Phone, and to help fix some of the photo issues observed by users of the phone. With the new update, the Essential Phone joins the likes of Google's Pixel 2 and the iPhone X with a new background-blurring Portrait mode.
Aside from the new mode, the update also adds a number of improvements for the camera, which has been at the center of many disappointing reviews for the new phone. The newer camera app version adds the exposure compensation feature to more camera modes, and it provides reduction of JPEG compression, thus improving the overall quality of photos.
Users of the Essential Phone can also expect the camera to run smoother compared to previous versions of the camera app, as the updates adds more stability and better performance to the feature.
While these are great updates to the camera, Essential is still working on bringing its flagship's camera up to par with other big names in smartphones, like Google, Samsung, and Apple. When the company's first phone was launched earlier this year, many critics and users found that the camera was the phone's weakest feature.
The good news is that Essential appears to be committed to listening to popular opinion about its product. Since the phone was released, the company has rolled out a number of updates dedicated to improving the camera.
Next week, the Essential phone is also set to release an update to its Beta version of the latest Android operating system, Oreo.
Despite the many delays that customers had to endure while waiting for their new phone to be shipped, Essential delivered a very good and capable flagship phone, with only its camera as a glaring weakness. However, in today's very competitive smartphone market, Essential may need to pull of some more tricks to get to the top.
