According to the reports, the Rook costs about £39 (US$60) for EE's current customers and about £49 (US$75) for new customers.

The British company also released two new smartphones earlier this year -- the Harrier and the Harrier Mini variant.

The Rook sports a four-inch high resolution display screen with an 800 x 480 resolution. It comes with a sharp 5 mega pixel camera on the back and runs on the new Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system.

Under the hood, the Rook is powered by a MediaTek MT6735M 64-bit processor and has 1 GB RAM and an expandable 8 GB internal memory storage. Trusted Reviews reports that the Rook's internal memory can be expanded up to 32 GB via microSD card.

On the front of the new phone, GSM Arena reports that there exists a VGA unit. The Rook is also powered by a 1500 mAh battery. GSM Arena added that the new handset was now available at the company and online stores.

Director of devices Sharon Meadows of EE said: "We believe everyone should have access to 4G and the experiences it offers on the go,"

"The new Rook from EE provides a great 4G smartphone at a compelling price, allowing even more people to enjoy the benefits of our superfast mobile network, from high-speed web browsing and downloads to gaming and streaming." Meadows added.

Apparently, the Rook is suitable for those looking for a new low-budget smartphone that offers faster mobile data connectivity.

EE, a mobile operator and internet service provider based in the U.K., was established in 2010. It is currently the biggest 4G network operator in Europe, according to a report.
