The synopsis for the premiere episodes is as follows:

"Sheldon and Penny share intimate secrets while Leonard is away at sea, later, Sheldon's feelings are crushed when Leonard returns. Meanwhile, Raj gets consoled about his ex-girlfriend and Wolowitz's relationship with his mother causes an unusual threat to his masculinity."

The premiere will see Penny and Sheldon spend more time together, only to have their bond spoiled when Leonard returns. Leonard, meanwhile, will be having a great time at the North Sea.

The episode will also see Amy and Bernadette hitting the road together.

Cast members of the hit series are set to get big pay rises as the comedy returns for season 7 tonight.

Cast members Jim Parsons (Sheldon), Johnny Galecki (Leonard) and Kaley Cuoco (Penny) will receive a big pay rise. The three may reportedly seek up to $1 million per episode – up from the trio's current salary of $325,000 per episode.

Mayim Bialik and Melissa Rauch also signed new contracts. They will receive $60,000 per episode, an increase from their $20,000-$30,000 per episode.

Series regulars Simon Helberg (Howard) and Kunal Nayyar (Raj) are also said to be renegotiating.

Although "The Big Bang Theory" lost out to ABC's "Modern Family" for the outstanding comedy series Emmy Award, the show was ranked as the number one comedy on television with the highest ratings in the 18-49 demographic.
