'Person of Interest' season 5 spoilers: The Machine may undergo some needed modifications

 CBS

"Person of Interest" season 5 will see bigger troubles coming the team's way. Root and Finch will greatly be at loggerheads in the season and this fissure may or may not cost the effective reconstruction of The Machine, which, considering Samaritan's rampage, isn't at all in good shape.

"Root is still [The Machine's] No. 1 champion so she is trying to convince Harold that we should maybe make some 'modifications' while we're rebuilding Her," Amy Acker aka Root told TV Line. However, it looks like Finch isn't in favor of such alterations.

Creator and showrunner Jonathan Nolan teases that in "Person of Interest" season 5, the team is running against the clock. With the stakes at their all-time high, Root and Finch must decide if adjusting the "secret formula" of the machine being ethical or not still matters in the face of danger.

As Nolan hinted in a season 4 finale interview with TV Line months back, the group must be able to rebuild The Machine, "all while not being scooped up and eliminated by the new world order."

Meanwhile, Sameen Shaw will be back in "Person of Interest" season 5. However, knowing that Samaritan "did a number on her" as the character's essayer Sarah Shahi put it, Shaw won't be herself when she reappears. What gave way to such will be revealed in the new season.

"We will learn what happened to Shaw over the last nine, 10 months, however long it is she's been missing," the actress told TV Line. During the chat, Shahi also gushed about the CBS science fiction crime drama and the privilege of being part of it.

"It's everything that I wanted to play in this character, all the places I wanted to go to as an actress but never had the opportunity, and they wrote it for me," Shahi shared. With all that said, expect more Shaw in "Person of Interest" season 5 when it premieres next year.
