'Minecraft' biggest update released for Xbox One and PS4

 Mojang

Mojang just dropped a "humongous" update for the PS4 and Xbox One versions of "Minecraft." The developer teases that the latest update is the biggest one the sandbox game has ever received to date, "bringing the console versions closer to the current PC build than they've ever been before."

Dubbed as the update 1.8.8, the sizable upgrade introduces copious numbers of brand new features for gamers to play with and a whole host of tweaks that improve the building experience. For starters, a bounty of new items has been added to the game.

From anything that involves a rabbit to every type of fishes such as pufferfish and salmon, "Minecraft" players on PS4 and Xbox One will get it. There will also be an armor stand, potion of leaping and of water breathing as well as a whole selection of flowers and foliage.

The update also brings along new stuff in the creative mode such as span eggs for Rabbit, Endermite and Guardian, new-fangled blocks, some new mobs namely the Endermite, Guardian, Elder Guardian, Rabbit and Chicken Jockey and finally, a litany of additional biomes.

"Minecraft" players can do so much more, thanks to update 1.8.8. Not only will they be able to catch treasures while fishing, gamers will notice that the villagers are getting more and more skilled, with their newfound ability to harvest and breed.

"To encourage that kind of behavior, give them 3 bread, 12 carrots, or 1 potato. They'll also turn into Witches when struck by lightning," the Mojang team advised. Any rectangular shape can now double as a Nether Portal. The bonus is that Ghasts can travel in and out of them too.

Mojang also made it a point to fix some issues as they add all these goodies to "Minecraft." To check the complete list of the new additions, changes and fixes, head to Mojang's changelog for update 1.8.8 here.

The huge update will be available to the PS Vita "in the next few days" while the game's recently released Wii U version won't receive it until next year.
