It has been 10 months since Zayn Malik decided to leave One Direction. Back in March, the 23-year-old sparked mass hysteria among the British boy band's fans when he announced that he was leaving the band to live life as "a normal 22-year old."

And while Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, and Niall Horan have said in past interviews that there are no hard feelings between them and Malik and that they are still talking, Malik said in a new interview that he hasn't spoken to any of them, except Payne, since he left.

Speaking with Vogue, the singer said, "The truth is I haven't spoken to any of the boys at all really, I spoke to Liam a bit and that's just the way it is."

Malik said that he did try to reach out to them but they didn't respond at all. He also revealed that when the boys were asked if they were still on speaking terms they would say that they have spoken to him and that they were still friends.

"But that's not the case, I tried to reach out and be their friend but they haven't even replied to any of my calls or texts," he added.

Despite the lack of communication, Malik said that he didn't leave because there was infighting in the band and that he just wanted to make his own music.

Back in June, Malik signed a record deal with RCA, which is the record company behind some of the most successful solo artists such as Britney Spears, Sia, Chris Brown, Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, and Alicia Keys, among others. According to the magazine, Malik started working on a new album shortly after signing the deal and that he has been recording in some unconventional places, which include a suite in the Beverly Hills Hotel and a tent in the woods.

Now that he's making the music that is more to his style, the singer says that he can be himself and make music that feels "honest" to him.

"It doesn't feel like work. It really is relaxing to me," said Malik.
