'Yuri on Ice' season 2 news: Animated film confirmed but few details around second season

The huge success of the first season of Japanese anime series "Yuri on Ice" has led creators to feature it in a film. Considering that an animated film is being given to the fans of the hit anime series, many are speculating that there might not be a season 2 for "Yuri on Ice."

According to Crunchyroll, the animated film for "Yuri on Ice" was announced when the cast reunited at Chiba, Japan's Maihama Amphitheater. On the stage were the voice actors behind the much-loved Yuri Katsuki and Viktor Nikiforov. The voice behind the grudgingly adorable Yuri Plisetsky was also on stage.

Despite the star-studded "Yuri on Ice" stage, fans are riding the hype brought by the excitement of finally receiving word about the anime series. Since season 1 ended with a powerful stage set by the champion Plisetsky and the newfound determination of Katsuki, fans have patiently been waiting for news regarding a second season for "Yuri on Ice." So far, the studio has yet to confirm anything but 247techy reports that one of the members of the creative team has teased it might be released in October.

While details have yet to be confirmed, the announcement of the "Yuri on Ice" animated film seems to have appeased some of the fans. Some, however, are speculating that the film is a sign that waiting for season 2 is like waiting for a miracle to happen. So far, the Blu-ray release of "Yuri on Ice" doesn't have anything that signals as the much-anticipated season 2. But it does feature a never-before-seen routine by Plisetsky that fans may want to watch, especially if they have nothing but love for the Russian teenager.

The "Yuri on Ice" season 1 ending also teased a comeback for Viktor, who expressed that he will continue to be Katsuki's mentor and close friend while training to get back in the game. If there's going to be a season 2 for "Yuri on Ice," it would be interesting to see how the dynamic between the two will change with Viktor as his rival.
