Xbox One price £399 on Amazon: Release date, specs, features for Microsoft's latest gaming console

The Xbox One price tag has been revealed by Amazon ahead of its release date. The giant retailer has been taking pre-orders of the latest gaming device for a price tag of £399.99, with the message: "We do not yet have a release date for Xbox One. This is a placeholder only."

The new price tag is significantly higher than Microsoft's previous gaming device, the Xbox 360, which launched with a price tag of around £210.

"It's always interesting when these things come out costing more money than you would expect," said Tech Radar's editor Gareth Beavis. "It's massively upgraded in terms of its spec. It's not just a games console, Microsoft wants it to be an entertainment hub. It's a massive step forward from the Xbox 360, which was slowly morphing into more than just a thing to play games on. I think it's a little bit expensive but it's a premium product so I can understand why it is."

The Xbox One was revealed on May 21 but so far there has been no word from Microsoft as to when the device will be available to the public. The official price tag is yet to be released.

The Xbox One may ship with a total of three USB ports and a pair of HDMI ports, according to the latest 3D rendering of the upcoming device released by a Microsoft executive.

Despite the reveal of the Xbox One, Microsoft has not confirmed the processor or graphics of the device. But according to Expert Reviews, the Xbox One uses AMD CPU and graphics hardware. AMD's latest Radeon HD 7790 graphics card is also expected to be the basis of the Xbox's GPU.

The device will come with a controller similar to that of its predecessor, Xbox 360, and include a 500GB mechanical hard disk and blu-ray.
