Fans of the "X-Men" franchise have been speculating about the plot of the upcoming film "X-Men: Apocalypse," with some drawing conclusions based on the popular Marvel comics' stories.
But now, the wait is over as the official plot for the movie has been released. According to the synopsis, an ancient and very powerful mutant named Apocalypse will be awakened and will create chaos and destruction as he seeks to wipe out the human race and create a new world to rule over.
Here is the official synopsis of the film:
"Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshiped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel's X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender) to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction."
Recruiting new X-Men members appears to be a crucial move for Professor X, as in the comics, Apocalypse is described as a mutant with a wide range of powers, so it will take a group of X-Men with varying abilities to defeat him. According to Marvel.Wikia, Apocalypse has the powers of superhuman strength and speed. He also has the ability to teleport and is highly resistant to injury. He can fly, alter his appearance, and can also manipulate energy. Moreover, the villain is said to be immortal, so all these powers and abilities will be something that Professor X and the rest of the X-Men might have to keep in mind as they plot to stop him from destroying the world.
Aside from Lawrence, McAvoy and Fassbender, the film will see Nicholas Hoult reprise his role as Beast. Evan Peters will be back as Quicksilver, and Lucas Till as Havok. New cast additions include "Game of Thrones" star Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, Olivia Munn as Psylocke, Alexandra Shipp as Storm, Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, and Lana Condor as Jubilee.
