Fans of "Westworld" may have to wait some more for the show's second season.

HBO's "Westworld" executive producers Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy are taking their time in creating the series' second season. It is an ambitious undertaking to write, shoot and edit the show all at once, with "Westworld" coming back in 2018.

Aside from the aforementioned reason, there might be something else that could hold the project back even longer. According to Entertainment Weekly, "Westworld" has halted filming due to an actor's recurring undetermined medical emergency.

The identity of the performer is unknown, and HBO released a statement regarding the incident: "Due to a medical emergency involving a performer in a recurring role on season two of 'Westworld,' filming on one of the two units has been temporarily suspended."

The statement also adds that the person in question was not on set when the medical emergency happened and the show respects the performer's privacy and hopes for a quick recovery.

"Westworld" was given the green light to start shooting in 2013, and a full series order was done the following year, putting its 2015 debut on track. Unfortunately, at the start of 2016, the show was still in the middle of production, and the show's executive producers made the announcement that they would be taking a two-month break to polish the last four scripts.

In the long run, "Westworld" made its debut in 2016, and many said it was worth the long wait. The show broke ratings record in its premiere season, gaining critical claim and earning a huge fan base.

The main concern now is for the performer's health, but depending on the duration of the delays, reshoots or, at worse, actors being recast, this could affect the premiere date of "Westworld." Hopefully, it's not as serious as it seems and the actor will make a quick recovery.

"Westworld" season 2 returns to HBO in 2018.
