The much-awaited fourth calf of April the giraffe has yet to arrive, making a few curious followers doubt the pregnancy. Animal Adventure Park assures its followers that the giraffe's pregnancy is real. And despite the delay, April is healthy.
Tens of millions of people are still tuning in to Animal Adventure Park's live stream feed of April the giraffe. Animal enthusiasts expected her to give birth in the first few days of April, but the days have gone by and April is still very pregnant.
With April still showing no signs of active labor, a number of rumors and reports have started circulating, suggesting that the pregnancy is just a hoax.
The New York zoo, however, was quick to debunk some of the rumors. In a recent update on April's pregnancy, the park took to Facebook to give fans a quick biology lesson. They wrote," animals do not develop milk unless supporting a pregnancy. Furthermore — giraffes do not develop large udders like cattle etc. so to see this much development truly suggests calving in the near future."
Their followers' patience is growing thin. But at the end of the day, what matters is the giraffe's health. According to the park, doors are now open at the Giraffe barn, allowing April some much-needed yard time under the sun. April is joined by her 5-year-old calf Oliver during yard time.
A giraffe's pregnancy typically lasts up to 15 months, and labor could happen in a matter of hours or it could go on for a few days.
When April's fourth calf is born, the park says that animal enthusiasts will be able to grab the opportunity to name the baby. A contest will be held, and the lucky winner will have the privilege of naming April's much-awaited baby.
