Developer Creative Assembly had finally fulfilled their promise of a spinoff game for "Total War." But, fans may have to wait until 2018 to get their hands on "Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia."

In July, Jack Lusted, director for "Total War," announced that the series would be expanding. He also revealed that these games, dubbed as the "Total War Saga," would each focus on a specific time or location that had been a great part of history. Instead of looking at entire eras, the games will have a much narrower scope, only considering pivotal events in history. Lusted further revealed that the saga would be about "real-time strategy battle tactics."

The first spinoff in the franchise, "Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia," was announced early this week on Nov. 14. The game will take a closer look at 878 AD, the time after the Viking invasion of Britain. Players can expect to see English, Sottish, Irish, and Welsh kings either forging treaties or preparing their armies for battle.

"Britannia is a furnace of possibilities, from which the template for modern Britain will be forged, across the most detailed Total War campaign map ever made," the description of the game reads. Players can expect their choices to define the future of Britain in the game.

Game director Mike Simpson also said that their game will not only focus on strategy. He revealed, "Unlike our era-spanning titles, we're putting defined geographical areas under the microscope, building super-detailed campaign maps with a strong cultural focus and flavour that players can dive into."

"Total War: Warhammer" and "Total War: Warhammer 2" were released in 2016 and 2017. Details about "Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia," like specific release date, are expected to be announced in the following weeks, but the game already has a Steam page for pre-orders.

The page only consists of an expanded version of the game's description.
