The "Total War" franchise is ready for a new era, as the next historical title will be an all-new time period which the developers have not explored.

Following the overwhelming success of "Total War: Warhammer" and its sequel, developer Creative Assembly (CA) goes back to their roots. A separate and dedicated CA team is now reportedly working on an all-new historical era "Total War." They did not specify which era it is, though, or what the name of the upcoming title will be.

The CA team has also expressed excitement for the upcoming new "Total War" game because it will be the first new era since 2013, and they are promising a new look and feel for the game.

"We've ramped up to the final team size in the past few months, so things are moving along steadily with daily visible progress. For example, it's nice to see, after having researched historical city-layouts for months, it all coming together in the game. There are still placeholder grey boxes here and there, but the atmosphere is already outstanding and gameplay feels strong," said Janos Gaspar, one of game director's at CA.

Meanwhile, Maya Georgieva of CA Sofia has announced that they are working for a new campaign expansion for one of their older historical games, though she did not specify which one exactly, only that the said expansion will be one of the biggest they are preparing. This is also the more recent of the two. As to which game it may build upon, the current most popular historical "Total War" game right now on Steam is "Total War: Rome II." This may be an indication that the game could be having the said campaign expansion.

Georgieva also added that this campaign expansion will be the next big announcement for a historical "Total War" game before the one being developed by Janos and his CA team. As of now, no exact dates have been announced yet for the next historical "Total War" title. Fans are advised to stay tuned to CA.
