After 14 years, "X-Files" fans will be in for a treat. The hit '90s series is coming back for a six-episode revival on Fox.

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson will reprise their iconic characters Mulder and Scully.

In an interview with TVLine, Duchovny talked about the franchise and what it's like to be stepping into Mulder's shoes again after more than a decade.

The actor said that when he first worked on the series, which premiered in 1993, he was just "trying to keep my head above water artistically" since it was one of his first jobs.

"I think me and Gillian coming back at this point in our lives and in our careers…we're much better at what we do now," said Duchovny.

During the first run of the show, Duchovny quit after the seventh season due to contract disputes. However, the actor said that he always had an appreciation for the show because not only did it make his career, but it also gave him the chance to go to work every day.

"If I ever did not have an appreciation for the show it was probably [during the final seasons] when I think we were just tired, and antsy to go out and do other things," Duchovny explained.

After working on "The X-Files," the 55-year-old worked on movies such as "Things We Lost in the Fire" and "The Joneses." In 2007, he returned to television on the show "Californication," which ran for seven years.

Duchovny is currently working on NBC's "Aquarius," which is slated to air its second season next year.

For now, it is unclear if show creator Chris Carter will consider doing another season after the show airs its six-episode special, but Duchovny said that if Carter starts thinking about where to take the show and the characters next "I'm sure we'd all listen."

"The X-Files" reboot will premiere on Jan. 24 on Fox.
