It seems that the AMC show "The Walking Dead" has been experiencing the yo-yo effect with its ratings. This week, the announcement of the key crossover character between the postapocalyptic series and its spinoff show, "Fear The Walking Dead," might have paved the way for an increase in the ratings of the flagship show and the "Talking Dead," where the announcement was made.

Sunday was a great day for both "The Walking Dead" and "Talking Dead," after viewers regained heightened interest in the series following the announcement that Morgan (Lennie James) will be joining "Fear The Walking Dead."

The latest episode of "The Walking Dead," titled "The King, The Widow, and Rick," garnered a 3.6 rating with 8.3 million 18-49 viewers. This was an increase from the ratings of last week's episode, titled "The Big Scary U," which had 7.85 million viewers and a 3.4 rating.

"The Walking Dead" season 8 kickstarted with a low 5.0 rating and only 11.4 million viewers, as compared to the previous installment's premiere, which had an 8.4 rating and 16.4 million viewers. From there, the current season further went downhill for the second and third episodes. The number slightly increased with the fourth episode, but immediately declined on the following episode.

Meanwhile, the "Talking Dead" also had increased viewership on Sunday night, with 3.2 million viewers tuning in to know who will jump to the other show. The episode was graced by Melissa McBride and Kevin Smith, as well as host Chris Hardwick.

The announcement had gotten curiosity from fans, who were informed days before of the big event taking place. The "Talking Dead" follows "The Walking Dead," where they talk about the just-aired episode during that day.

"The Walking Dead" season 8 airs every Sunday, at 9 p.m. EST on AMC. The "Talking Dead" follows after.
