'The Walking Dead' season 6' midseason premiere 'the biggest episode' the show has done

In the midseason finale of "The Walking Dead," Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) led his people and the entire population of Alexandria after the community lost their leader and suffered a terrifying zombie attack.

But when the show returns, they will be facing even more problems when they go head to head with the walkers and The Saviors, a dangerous crew led by Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan).

Speaking to TV Insider, executive producer Robert Kirkman said that this won't be the end of Alexandria, but fans will see a different Rick Grimes "as he faces possibly the biggest hardships yet."

It was previously reported that the midseason premiere will be one of the most shocking episodes of the show yet as Lincoln told the Huffington Post that he dropped his script when he read it, saying that showrunner Scott Gimple and his team have definitely outdone themselves this season.

Lincoln told TV Insider that their first episode after the show's winter hiatus is "the biggest episode that we've done in terms of the amount that happens."

"This is the greatest jeopardy they've all faced, and it's going to take a lot to save this community," the actor said.

There will also be an expansion of "The Walking Dead" universe as Gimple revealed that viewers are going to see a larger world and that the group will discover all sorts of complications that they were not aware of.

And while viewers got to see very little of fan-favorite Daryl (Norman Reedus), Gimple promised that the audience will get to see more of the character in upcoming episodes.

"He's very scary in this back half, but there are a couple of moments where he made me laugh out loud," said Gimple about the character. When Daryl returns to Alexandria, he will also reunite with Rick as they go off on a little adventure of their own.

And while fans have known about Negan's arrival in the series, the website reports that the character's first onscreen appearance will not happen in the midseason premiere as Negan will make his debut in the April 3 season finale of the show.

"The Walking Dead" returns Sunday, Feb. 14 at 9/8c on AMC.
