'The Walking Dead' plot news: Major character killed off in issue 167

"The Walking Dead" creator Robert Kirkman has killed off another major character in the well-loved zombie-themed apocalypse story. Issue #167 of "The Walking Dead" tells the unfortunate story.

Andrea, who is portrayed by Laurie Holden in the AMC adaptation, made it far enough in the comic books, until issue #167 was published anyway. Fans of the TV show, however, need not worry. The character, who was Rick Grimes' (Andrew Lincoln) love interest, was killed off in the TV series back in season 3.

Even though the TV series has not remained faithful to the comic books, reports say that the plot could easily be echoed in AMC's show. In the latest season, Rick was still pretty much involved with Michonne (Danai Gurira). Perhaps the katana-wielding zombie slayer might take Andrea's place.

To note, fans have already been upset by the two major character deaths, Glenn (Steven Yeun) and Abraham (Michael Cudlitz), that greeted viewers in the premiere episode of season 7. Since war is looming, perhaps more characters will bid the series goodbye next season. However, will the deaths be from Rick's team or from Negan's (Jeffrey Dean Morgan)?

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, "The Walking Dead" showrunner Scott M. Gimple shared that the upcoming season will be rather different, in terms of structure.

He shared, "By virtue of the fact that the narrative has turned into one of pretty intense conflict, it's going to affect the structure in ways that make it a bit more kinetic, a bit more breakneck — shifting away from entire stories in one episode, and sort of fractured over several episodes, with little pieces of each story coming together."

Production for the next installment in the series began last Monday, May 1. "The Walking Dead" returns with an all-new season on AMC this fall.

More updates should arrive soon. Stay tuned.
