FOX's "The Gifted" continues to build a realistic "X-Men" universe. The show is halfway through its premiere season and things continue to look good for the series. "The Gifted" has certainly built a solid fan base who are excited to not just see mutants on the screen but also all the other iconic "X-Men" characters.

One of these memorable characters is the Sentinel. However, the ones featured on the TV series are not the same as what fans know from the comic books. Instead of gargantuan robots, the Sentinels in "The Gifted" is a branch of the U.S. government bent on capturing and prosecuting mutants.

The anti-mutant government agency has the usual resources of firearms, transport, money, etc. Additionally, the Sentinel Services, as they are called in the show, have awesome technologies. This includes a collar that can inhibit a mutant's abilities, allowing them to be placed in a normal holding cell without any other considerations.

The agency has also managed to use a mutant and its ability in trying to capture other mutants. Sentinel Services still have robots; though these are significantly smaller, they can do the job in neutralizing a potentially dangerous mutant.

Lauren Shuler Donner, one of the producers of "The Gifted," explained that the show intends to be part of the "X-Men" universe and given that, the mutants' fight against the Sentinel Services is an essential part.

An actual Sentinel robot might pose some budgetary problems in the future and "The Gifted" is still grounded in reality even with the talk of mutants around. Building-sized Sentinel robots just won't fit with the show's theme in a way that the current version of the Sentinel Services does.

While there's no concrete information that Sentinel robots will make an appearance on the show, it would certainly be an interesting thing to see how it will play out with the show's grounded vibe.

"The Gifted" airs every Monday at 9 p.m. EDT on FOX.
