This week on "The Blacklist," after being on the run and hiding from their pursuers, Liz (Megan Boone) was finally captured by Ressler and his team, and it looks like when the show returns next year, fans will see Liz being held in the same place where she met Red (James Spader) and where it all began in the show's pilot.

The hour saw Liz and Red making their way through West Virginia, and while the two thought that their troubles would soon be over, things go very wrong at a rest stop. A group of robbers who called themselves Kings of the Highway kidnapped Red and robbed him, but when they realized who he is, the group thought that they could make a fortune if they turned him and Liz over to the authorities.

But Liz was able to get Red back by making a deal with the robbers, in exchange for a package that was the key to exonerating Liz. Toward the end of the hour, Ressler (Diego Klattenhoff) and his team showed up, and they put Liz in handcuffs.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Jon Bokenkamp talked about the midseason finale and what's to come when the show returns to NBC.

Bokenkamp said that now that Liz has been captured, she'll be in greater danger as the Cabal will most likely do all that they can to prevent her from talking about what she knows. And while Ressler believes that he can keep her safe, Bokencamp said that at some point he will be forced to improvise, and that means turning to Red and "handling things in a bit of a non-traditional way."

Bokenkamp revealed that Liz will be in the glass box that used to hold Red in the first episode of season one.

"She's traded places with Red. Red's now on the outside of the box and she's on the inside. It's an interesting dynamic. We're definitely going to put her in there right away," he said.

"The Blacklist" returns Thursday, Jan. 7 at 9 p.m. on NBC.
