'Super Smash Bros. 4' news: Shovel Knight DLC rumors

Shovel Knight Yacht Club Games

It has been widely believed that Shovel Knight, the main character of the game with the same name, will be coming via DLC to Nintendo's popular fighting game "Super Smash Bros." for 3DS and Wii U. However, according to a recent Twitter post from Yacht Club Games, this is not true and is only based on a mislisting of amiibo products.

Yacht Club Games addresses the issue with their statement, "Appreciate the enthusiasm for the idea, but I believe this listing was made in error."

In response to several comments, Yacht CLub Games explains that the "Shovel Knight" amiibo should not have been listed among "Super Smash Bros." amiibo, hinting that the former will be primarily for "Shovel Knight" on the Wii U and may even be compatible with other NIntendo games such as the recently launched "Super Mario Maker."

Fans first believed that Shovel Knight would be coming to "Super Smash Bros." due to the recently revealed amiibo figure. The image also reveals that the Shovel Knight amiibo was listed amongst the other amiibo that have been confirmed to be compatible with "Super Smash Bros." such as Mewtwo and Falco.

Further hinting of Shovel Knight's addition was the new patch 1.1.1. As reported by Nintendo Everything, the data files for the patch reveal that not only are there six stage slots in the game but there are also three empty character slots as well. This could indicate that Shovel Knight will be one of the three new characters.

Other than Shovel Knight, fans are speculating that the empty character slots could be for the Inklings from "Splatoon" or one from the ballot poll where Nintendo asked fans to pitch their idea for a character to be included in "Super Smash Bros."

While Shovel Knight might not be heading to "Super Smash Bros." anytime soon Yacht Club Games is releasing a physical copy of the game will be released soon for PlayStation 4, Nintendo 3DS and Wii U.
