Fans of "Super Meat Boy" will be able to meet the game's protagonist in Nintendo Switch soon, as the developers of the game have finally announced the release date on the handheld console.

Team Meat, the developer of the game, has recently announced that their beloved and difficult platformer will be making its way to the Switch on Jan. 11, 2018. They will also be throwing in a bonus for Switch users in the form of a new mode which could be exclusive to the platform.

In a Twitter post from the official account for "Super Meat Boy," the developers have confirmed that the new mode will be a race. No exact details have been revealed by the developers yet regarding this new mode for the Switch, but based on the image they posted, it looks to be a split-screen competitive mode which utilizes the Switch's dual-controller design.

This means that Switch owners will be able to compete with their friends side-by-side using the controllers of the Switch to finish the levels as fast as possible before the other person does. This could also mean that the multiplayer function of "Super Meat Boy" on the Switch could be more pronounced than in the other platform versions, though should it prove to be too popular, the developers might eventually bring it to the home consoles and the PC as well. Still, that would depend on the whims of the community and the will of the developers.

"Super Meat Boy" was first released back in 2010 and has gained much fame as a tough but fair 2D platformer game. The story revolves around the protagonist, a cube of meat, who is trying to save his girlfriend, who happens to be made of bandages, from an evil fetus in a jar wearing a tux. This puts Super Meat Boy in peril where he even sacrifices himself just to save his girl. The game is also one of the most highly rated in Steam with an overwhelmingly positive review rating of 95 percent out of 16,338 users.
