Production on the second season of "Stranger Things" has begun as the show's official Facebook page posted a photo of the original cast during a script reading session, revealing that all of the main cast members will be back, including Millie Bobbie Brown (Eleven). When the show returns, it appears that the directors, the Duffer brothers, will continue to pay homage to the '80s as the series has cast a "Goonies" actor, as well as a star from James Cameron's 1986 film "Aliens."
According to Entertainment Weekly, Sean Astin, who is known for his work on "The Goonies" and "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy, will play a character named Bob in the upcoming season of the show. Bob is described as a kindhearted former nerd who went to high school with Winona Ryder's Joyce and David Harbour's Hopper, and he now manages the local Hawkins RadioShack. Meanwhile, "Aliens" actor Paul Reiser has been cast as Dr. Owens, a high-ranking member of the Department of Energy who has been tasked with containing the events of last year.
It is unknown if filming has started for the new season, but a Redditor named hollygorock posted some pictures of a few vehicles, trailers and film equipment that are all parked outside of a building that is used as Hawkins Lab in the series. None of the cast members are seen in the photos.
As for the show's return date, Netflix has yet to announce an official season 2 premiere date for "Stranger Things," but according to Mirror.co.uk, it is expected that the new installment will premiere before July 2017. The first season ran for 8 episodes and all of the episodes were released on Netflix on the same day this year — July 15. For season 2, the show will be comprised of 9 episodes and is expected to reveal what happened to Eleven after the season finale.
