'Stranger Things' news: Season 3 will be the last one according to the Duffer brothers

It seems the Duffer brothers, showrunners of the hit Netflix title "Stranger Things," are no stranger to work exhaustion, as the third season of the show will reportedly be their last writing work for the series.

This, however, does not mean that they are leaving the show nor does it mean that the series will stop at season 3, it only means that someone else will be responsible for the writing. The Duffer brothers will then step down from the responsibility and assume a more directional role as executive producers. This much was revealed by Netflix after fans of the show grew worrisome after the initial news that the Duffer brothers will not be writing after season 3.

The report that the Duffer brothers were stepping down from the writer's post for the show came directly from anonymous sources with knowledge of the production. As indicated above, this was confirmed by Netflix itself in its official Twitter account in order to quell further speculations.

Still, this does mean that the show might experience some changes in style or even script, depending on who will replace the Duffer brothers as showrunners. Though the brothers acting as executive producers could still oversee the script and screenplay of the show and even do some management work to ensure that the production remains as faithful to their idea as possible.

As for the next season after the third, it is not yet known what future awaits "Stranger Things" since it is too early to tell and season 3 has not even been released or officially revealed yet. The Duffer brothers' deal with Netflix, however, indicates that there should at least be two more projects, though it is uncertain whether it should strictly be for the show or not.

It remains to be seen how this creative transition in "Stranger Things" will affect the show and the only way to find out is to wait for the future of the series.
