'Splinter Cell' rumors: New stealth spy game coming out this year

It seems the developers of "Splinter Cell" may be sneaking another titular stealth game in for release this year, as a listing in an online market for a game from the franchise has been spotted.

Recently, "Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell 2018" has been listed as a game in Amazon, leading to a lot of speculations that a "Splinter Cell" sequel may be under preparation for a 2018 release. The listing did state that the purchase was currently unavailable and came with no additional details such as the release date, synopsis or the platforms for the game, though its developer was correctly listed as Ubisoft. For all fans know, even the title of the game could be tentative.

This said listing on Amazon has since been deleted and is no longer available. It was first spotted by Reddit user swiv-22 and has since sparked off an extensive discussion regarding what the game will be like or what it will involve. Some of the users of the said forum thread even discussed that it could be a ploy from Ubisoft to hype the game or gauge fan expectations.

What makes the game release also likely is the fact that Ubisoft Montreal CEO Yannis Mallat dropped some hints last year that the company was open to reviving the "Splinter Cell" spy game franchise. It can be recalled that the franchise has not had a new game since 2013's "Splinter Cell: Blacklist," meaning the time is ripe for another title iteration.

With that said, fans might want to hold their breaths first since official announcements or teasers usually happen before leaks, and the game being teased the same year as its release date is also quite unlikely. Still, the supposed Amazon leak could just be a new marketing tactic, or it could also just be a fake listing on the market website, hence it was taken down almost immediately.

Whatever the case may be, fans will want to keep they eyes peeled for official announcements since the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2018 is about to take place this coming June, meaning a lot of new games are going to be unveiled.
