The first season of "Speechless" is nearing its finale. The heart-wrenching series has so far featured son JJ (Micah Fowler) and mother Maya (Minnie Driver) in a relationship that has them attached at the hip. With the former planning to go to camp in the next episode, Maya is left with separation anxiety. How will she cope in the season finale titled "C-A--CAMP"?

According to the synopsis, the episode will open with the DiMeos readying to accompany JJ to camp. On the way there, Maya gets a surprise at the airport that she never expected. Meanwhile, Ray (Mason Cook) will see the summer as an opportunity to be a better person with a stronger identity. DiMeos' head figure and father Jimmy (John Ross Bowie) will turn the trip into an opportunity to spend some time with his daughter Dylan (Kyla Kenedy).

With so many things happening in one episode, predicting the end of the first season of "Speechless" has become an almost impossible task. Will Maya be receiving a good or bad surprise? And will the surprise affect JJ's trip in any way? Fans hope not but at the same time, some are worried about how Maya will take her first time being separated from her son.

Reports say that the episode will feature a few emotional minutes in which Maya will be going through a scrapbook documenting their past summer adventures. Even though she realizes that her son will have to learn how to thrive on his own sooner or later, Maya is expected to get emotional as she slowly realizes the full gravity of being a mother. As to whether her coming realizations will affect her performance as a mother or not, basing it on the past episodes of "Speechless" will say that it will only make her stronger.

"Speechless" is renowned for its ability to take on a storyline that involves the many challenges and rewarding moments of being part of a family who has to take care of a member with special needs. As good as the DiMeos may have been, fans have seen that they are also good at creating challenges that seem to do nothing but strengthen family ties.

"Speechless" may not have been the highest-rated show of ABC but TV Guide reports that the series will be coming back for a second season. The schedule is yet to be announced but at least fans will see more of the DiMeos' interesting family dynamics.

"Speechless" season 1 episode 23 will air on Wednesday, May 17.
