Selena Gomez makes triumphant return to the AMAs; Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift react to singer's emotional speech

Over the weekend, the stars came out to honor the best and the brightest in the music industry at the American Music Awards in Los Angeles, California. Sunday night saw the return of Selena Gomez after a three-month hiatus, and apart from winning the award for Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist, the singer-actress gained the admiration of her peers for her emotional and very candid speech about the pressures of fame.

In her speech, the former Disney star addressed the crowd and her millions of fans around the world, saying that the 2014 AMAs was the first time that she was honest with everyone.

"I think it's safe to say that most of you know a lot of my life, whether I liked it or not, and I had to stop," said Gomez. "I had everything and I was absolutely broken inside. I kept it all together enough to where I would never let you down, but I kept it too much together to where I let myself down."

She then addressed her social media followers, telling them that she does not want to see their bodies on Instagram, but she does want to see what's inside their hearts.

"I'm not trying to get validation, nor do I need it anymore," she continued. "If you are broken, you do not have to stay broken. If there's anything, whether you respect me or not, that's one thing you should know about me is that I care about people."

Gomez was applauded by the crowd, and Lady Gaga was seen looking very emotional and happy over the singer-actress' remarks. E! Online reports that the two later met up backstage, and the "Bad Romance" singer took to Instagram and posted a photo of her hugging Gomez.

"So dope I got to hang with the biggest rockstar of the night. (Ya know, besides Sting and Green Day)...the girl with the biggest prize of all a BIG Heart that she shares with the world," Gaga wrote.

Taylor Swift, who is one of the 24-year-old's closest friends, was not at the awards show, but the "Shake it Off" hitmaker also took to the photo sharing app to share a video of herself cheering on her longtime friend.

Gomez took a self-imposed break from the spotlight to focus on her health. In August, she decided to cancel her worldwide tour to deal with her anxiety and panic attacks which are associated with her ongoing battle with lupus. In 2014, she underwent chemotherapy as part of her treatment, and this year, it was reported that she entered a treatment facility in Tennessee to seek help for her emotional well-being. It was said that she completed her treatment program earlier this month.
