Last week, Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber were spotted at a bar of the Montage Beverly Hills, and the "What Do You Mean" singer was seen serenading the singer-actress.
Fans instantly speculated that the two might be back together, but the on-again, off-again couple has yet to talk about the current status of their relationship. Now, a new report claims that despite going on several dates, the pair is allegedly not exclusive yet because the stars do not want their relationship to be scrutinized again.
"They both have an understanding that how they are playing things now is the exact route things should be progressing for the time being," said a source to Hollywoodlife. The insider said that the pair will continue to spend time together, but "they will not endure the media circus they would get into if they exclusive again with each other."
"Selena wants more, but is accepting the way things are going because it allows her to still be in Justin's life," the source said.
TMZ reports that Gomez and Bieber have told friends that they are not back together despite the fact that they spent most of the weekend enjoying each other's company.
After their Nov. 20 date at the Montage hotel, the two were also seen at the 21-year-old's American Music Awards after-party at The Nice Guy in West Hollywood on Nov. 22, according to Hollywoodlife. A Hollywoodlife source also claimed that while the pair appeared to avoid each other at the AMA red carpet, the two were said to be rarely found in their seats as they allegedly spent most of the night in the former Disney star's dressing room.
Bieber previously spoke about his relationship with Gomez in an interview with Complex magazine, where he revealed that he was only 18 when they started living together and that the intensity of their relationship was one of the reasons why they broke up.
"It was kind of a marriage thing," he told Complex about their relationship. "Living with a girl, it was just too much at that age. But we were so in love. Nothing else mattered."
Bieber and Gomez dated from 2011 until Dec. 2014.
