Samsung Galaxy S8, Galaxy Note 8 release date, specs: Next-gen devices tipped to have curved screens

Samsung is working on its 2017 smartphone lineup as it struggles to move on from the embarrassment that was the Galaxy Note 7. Now, all eyes are on the South Korean tech developer as rumors about its upcoming devices, the Samsung Galaxy S8, S8 Edge, and Note 8 have been making the rounds online, with the latest reports claiming that the next-generation handsets will all have curved screens.

In recent years, Samsung has always released a flagship with the standard flat display along with a model with a curved screen. But it looks like the tech company will have a fresh take on the Galaxy S8 as the device is said to have a dual-curved display.

According to Korea Herald, the Samsung Galaxy S8 is expected to take its design cues from the Note 7, which has a dual-edged display. If the reports are accurate, then tech watchers can expect the Galaxy S8, S8 Edge, and Note 8 to look very similar, and the phones will likely differ in size, processor, and camera capabilities.

Samsung is also tipped to include 3D Touch or Force Touch technology in its upcoming smartphones. The technology was introduced by Apple back in September 2014, and it made its way to the iPhone 6s and iPhone 7. With this feature, users can launch apps or trigger actions by varying the force applied to a screen.

The company's next-generation smartphones are also said to have a new virtual assistant feature similar to Siri after Samsung acquired Viv Labs, a startup founded by one of the creators of Siri. There have been rumors that the virtual assistant will be named Bixby, but this has yet to be confirmed by the tech giant.

After the worldwide recall of the Note 7, there were rumors that Samsung might choose to retire its Galaxy Note series, but internet tipster Evan Blass, known as @evleaks on Twitter, recently leaked the model number of the Galaxy Note 8, along with the model numbers of the Galaxy S8 and S8 Edge, revealing that all three phones will be coming soon.

Stay tuned for more news about the upcoming Samsung smartphones.
