Redskins' Chris Thompson out for the season as fractured fibula requires surgery

Not only did the Washington Redskins lose to New Orleans Saints during Sunday's game, the team's running back Chris Thompson was also taken off the court during the third quarter.

The Saints won against the Redskins in an overtime, with 34-31. But, it seems that even worse events had enveloped the losing team, with Thompson's injury taking him out of the playing field for the rest of the season. Redskins coach, Jay Gruden, announced that Thompson had a fractured fibula and would require a surgery.

Thompson incurred the injury after the Saints' defender, Sheldon Rankins, rolled upon him. This happened after the Saints' quarterback, Kirk Cousins, had a rundown with Thompson. With this, many took note that the Redskins could be injured as well, as the team had been relying on Thompson too much, even with his small stature.

Gruden also divulged that the team would have "to make do" with the guys left, as one of the Redskin's most important players had to take the rest of the season off. This was echoed by tight end Vernon Davis, saying that the team had reached a setback with Thompson's injury. Also, Morgan Moses, the group's offensive tackle, revealed that they could not find someone that could be as efficient as Thompson was to the team.

Standing at 5 foot, 8 inches, Thompson reportedly had no problem running, blocking, and catching the ball. Meanwhile, Thompson, in a tweet on Monday, expressed his gratitude to his fans for the support he had been receiving. "This hurts. Not being able to go out and perform for my God who blessed me with this ability, my brothers, coaches, and the fans," the player said and added that he would do his best in order to play in the next season.
