A frantic and thrilling weekend awaits first-person shooter (FPS) players in "Rainbow Six Siege," as the game is going free starting today, Thursday, Nov. 16, throughout the weekend.

Following the developer Ubisoft's deployment of test servers for the upcoming downloadable content (DLC) "Operation White Noise," players will be able to sample the base game for free on the PlayStation 4 (PS4), Xbox One, and PC via Steam or Ubisoft's Uplay.

However, console players will have more requirements to fulfill compared to gamers on a PC. PS4 owners will need to have a PS Plus subscription in order to avail of the promo, while Xbox One owners will need an Xbox Live Gold membership. PC owners, on the other hand simply need a Steam or Uplay account in order to play the game for free.

Afterwards, players who liked the FPS will be able to pick up the game at a discount on all platforms from Nov. 16 to 27. The game's price is expected to go down by as much as 60 percent. Players who liked the game are advised to buy it during the free weekend period or shortly afterward since their progress on "Rainbow Six Siege" during that period gets carried over once they have the paid game. Otherwise, they will have to start from scratch.

As for those who do not want to purchase online, Black Friday sale discounts are also offered for "Rainbow Six Siege," particularly in Walmart, where the base game costs only $19. For six more dollars, players can go to Best Buy for the $25 Gold Year 2 Edition of the FPS.

During the free game mode period, players will have access to all maps, weapons, and game modes of the base game. It is not yet known whether or not free players will also have access to the DLCs although it is advised that they buy the base game first before purchasing any existing DLCs of the title.

"Rainbow Six Siege's" free weekend period runs from Nov. 16 up until Nov. 19.
