Sales of the Playstation 4 and Microsoft One gaming consoles continue to stay strong in the new year.

Sony announced PS4 sales figures at the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show today that they have sold over 4.2 million units worldwide as of Dec. 28, 2013.

Andrew House, President and Group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. stated: "The momentum of the PS4 system keeps getting stronger and we couldn't be more thrilled gamers worldwide are enjoying the incredibly immersive gaming experiences along with deep social capabilities and entertainment provided by our network. After a remarkable launch, we look forward to bringing even more exciting content and continuing to explore the power of the PS4 system by adding new features and services, including PlayStation Now, in 2014."

Microsoft also recently announced that 3 million Xbox One units were sold before the new year.

"Since our launch, demand for Xbox One has been strong, selling out throughout the holidays at most retailers worldwide," said Xbox marketing director Yusuf Mehdi. "We are continuing to work hard to deliver additional consoles to retailers as fast as possible."

The PS4 is clearly outselling the Xbox One, but keep in mind that the PS4 is available in most countries while the Xbox One is only available in 13 countries. However, the PS4 has yet to launch in Sony's home country, Japan.

New video games are set to launch with the new consoles.
