"Pokémon GO" is joining the Halloween festivities with a twist. With the spooky holiday just right around the corner, the mobile game is celebrating with the release of the new Ghost-type Pokémon from the Hoenn region.
Game developer Niantic made the announcement thru a news update on Oct. 19. This confirmed rumors and leaks that pocket monsters from the fan-favorite video games "Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire" will be featured in the mobile game in celebration of Halloween.
The mobile game already started the Halloween festivities last Friday, Oct. 20, and it will go on until Friday, Nov. 2, Friday at 4 p.m. EDT. Players will be able to spot Pikachu making rounds while wearing Halloween-themed apparel. Trainers can also wear costumes by using the special item called Mimikyu's Disguise Hat.
During the "Pokémon GO" Halloween event, Ghost-type Pokémon like Ghastly, Cubone, Misdreavus, Houndour will be haunting virtual streets and corners of the augmented reality mobile game. These Pokémon will be joined by Gen 3 Pokémon such as Sableye, Banette and Duskull who will be a common fixture on the game as per Gamespot.
Players who play throughout the Halloween special will get to earn special prizes like extra Candy rewards for catching, hatching or transferring Pokémon as well as trainers getting twice the number of rewards.
In line with the event, the in-game shop will also have limited edition boxes that have items like Raid Passes and Super Incubators. Pokémon that are out and about during this Halloween season will also be rewarded with twice the usual amount of Candy.
With regards to the Hoenn-based Pokémon from the "Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire" series, they will be making an appearance one by one as early as December. Earlier iterations of the recent "Pokémon Go" update has revealed several sound files and entries for all the Gen 3 Pokémon, including the legendary Pokémon. It could only be a matter of time before they appear on "Pokémon Go."
