The highly anticipated "Pokémon GO" event for Easter is finally live.

The new Easter event, which runs from April 13 at 1 p.m. PDT until April 20 at the same time, will release more Pokémon in 2 km eggs. It also promises to offer increased candy from each egg hatched during the event.

According to the press release from the game's official website, players will get the chance to increase their level in the game faster. "Throughout this Eggstravaganza, you'll also level up even faster with double XP! Combine this Egg-cellent bonus with a Lucky Egg, and you'll earn four times the XP you normally would. To make this Eggstravaganza even sweeter, Lucky Eggs will be 50% off in the in-game shop!" the press release states.

Reports also reveal that the event will finally allow the generation 2 starter Pokémon, such as Totodile, Cyndaquil, and Chikorita, to hatch, based on the observation of several Reddit users.

While the number of "Pokémon GO" players declined rapidly since its release in July 2016, Niantic Labs revealed that the game still has at least 65 million players all over the world who are still actively playing the game. "We continue to be inspired by the passion of the 65+ million people from around the world playing Pokémon GO each month. We're still at the beginning of the journey and there's a lot more to come," the game developer said in their blog post to express their gratitude for the continued support for the mobile game.

Since its debut last year, "Pokémon GO" won a number of awards from different organizations, including GameSpot's Best Mobile Games of the Year, BBC Radio 1's Teen Awards' Best Game, the Innovation of the Year and Handheld/Mobile Game of the Year award from the Golden Joystick Awards, IGN's Mobile Game of the Year award, and the Best App of the Year award from TechCrunch's Crunchies.
