The NBA will have to wait for another year to see Philadelphia 76ers' Joel Embiid in action as the former Kansas standout is set to miss another season to go through a second foot surgery.

Embiid has a history of injuries that dates back in his lone collegiate season with Kansas.

The 21-year-old suffered a stress fracture in his lower back in his time with the Jayhawks missing the Big 12 tournament and two NCAA games.

A week before the 2014 NBA Draft, Embiid sustained a stress fracture in the navicular bone in his right foot but Philadelphia still selected him No. 3 overall.

The injured bone is needed for proper weight transfer and force absorption during ground impact, Jeff Stotts of In Street Clothes stated.

After the surgery for the injury, the 76ers treated Embiid like they did center Nerlens Noel who also had to sit out an entire season after getting drafted in 2013 to heal an ACL injury.

Embiid showed progress at times during the season and the 76ers planned to include him in their Summer League roster but the healing process regressed.

"This group of experts unanimously agreed that the routine CT scan in June did reveal less healing than anticipated, an unexpected result since Joel was not experiencing any foot pain," 76ers general manager Sam Hinkie said in a statement.

Hinkie said after receiving the news regarding Embiid's healing process, they made the decision for him to go through another surgery.

"A collective decision has been made that the best approach to promote full healing would be to proceed with a bone graft of the fracture site. We anticipate the procedure will take place in the next 7-10 days and result in Joel missing the upcoming season."

Hinkie added that they are still searching for the doctor that will be doing the surgery.

Because of the uncertainty Philadelphia faces with Embiid, the franchise selected Duke center Jahlil Okafor as the No. 3 overall pick in this year's draft.
