"Penny Dreadful" has begun filming its third season. Last month, star Eva Green was spotted in Dublin, dressed as her character Vanessa. The new season will see a lot of changes for the series, with new faces joining the cast and new episodes being filmed in new locations.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, showrunner John Logan said that season 3 will be a change of pace for the Showtime series.

"We can get out of alleyways and cobblestone bars of Victorian London and see the world," said Logan.

After the events that forced the characters to leave England in season 2, the new season will see them in different parts of the world. Ethan (Josh Harnett) has been extradited to the US, Malcolm (Timothy Dalton) went on to bury his brother in Africa, while The Creature (Rory Kinnear) went on a boat and is heading to an unknown location.

Fans can also look forward to new characters when the show returns next year such as Dr. Henry Jekyll, to be played by Shazad Latif. Wes Studi will also be joining the show as a series regular and will play Kaetenay, an enigmatic Native American with a connection to Ethan and also becomes an ally to Malcolm.

Moreover, the horror drama has promoted Tony Award winner Patti LuPone as a series regular and will reprise her role as Dr. Seward, an American therapist who treats Vanessa with an unconventional method.

Season 3 will have 9 episodes and will see all the characters coming back together after they parted ways in the season 2 finale. The showrunner said that their coming together could be due to something other than a shared fate.

"Essentially, there's a pull bringing these characters together and it's supernatural, partly romantic, partly shared destiny," said Logan.

"Penny Dreadful" returns to Showtime in 2016.
