Here is some good news for avid players of the original "Star Wars: Battlefront II" from 2005. The multiplayer support has returned as well as crossplay between GOG and Steam.

GOG made the announcement thereby opening up the bridges to other players and making games more exciting. The statement read, "There has been an awakening... have you felt it? 'STAR WARS Battlefront II' (Classic, 2005), the critically acclaimed shooter of massively entertaining warfare, has received a critical update. Powered by GOG Galaxy, the multiplayer function of the game has now been restored AND with added Crossplay support between GOG Galaxy and Steam to boot."

The multiplayer feature will bring the "Star Wars" gaming community back together once again, reunite old friends, and fortify new alliances. In May of 2014, GameSpy shut down the multiplayer servers and crippled the online modes of not only the original "Star Wars: Battlefront II" but other games as well. Nevertheless, thanks to GOG and Steam, they have breathed life again to multiplayer support and the "Battlefront II" online game.

Avid players will have more options now and an easier time finding games on the different digital distribution platforms. It is something fans have been waiting for since 2014.

Steam joined in and made its own announcement, "Star Wars fans rejoice! Multiplayer support has returned for Battlefront II. Now you can draft your friends to the 501st legion and join up to 64 other players in a heated online battle for control of the galaxy."

In related news, the beta for "Star Wars: Battlefront II" is now available for a selection of players on PlayStation 4 (PS4), Xbox One, and PC. This game is the sequel to 2015's "Star Wars: Battlefront" and not to be confused with 2005's "Star Wars: Battlefront II."

Although the beta is exclusive for now, it will soon open up to other players in the near future. Stay tuned for more reports as the situation unfolds.
